What is Environmentalism?

It’s almost impossible to read a newspaper, walk into a store, or watch TV without being bombarded by Greenness. There are hotels turning green, Home Depot is the King of Green, and even Coke is becoming environmentalist. But what do these terms even mean?

Is it an issue of chaining yourself to a tree? Do you have to build your house out of dirt? Do you have to stop buying things that are commercially produced?

Submit your definition of “Environmentalism” or “Going Green” and let’s see if we can come up with something definitive.

I think “Environmentalism” is not a one time action like chaining yourself to a tree, or an absurd extreme action like building your house out of dirt, but it is a constant awareness of your actions as they might affect the environment at large. Its little actions that can make a difference, for example, why waste plastic bags for a little purchase at a grocery store. Buy a few sturdy bags that you can reuse for many purchases. This constant awareness should not over take your life; rather it should be on the back-burner of your mind. I don’t think its necessary to take extreme measures to save the environment. However, the combinations of everyone’s awareness and input can make a difference.
